Kaare Klint

One of the pioneers of the Scandinavian style is the designer and architect Kaare Klint who was born in Frederiksberg in 1888 and died in Copenhagen in 1954. In addition to architecture he also studied painting and realised the first furniture designs in 1914, designs that were defined by the prevailing neoclassicism of the day. From the 1920s onwards, Klint increasingly developed designs with characteristic, simple lines, and a very clear form language. Ergonomics moved increasingly to the centre of his work, and Klint tried to adapt his designs to human proportions. But Kaare Klint not only contributed to furniture history with his own designs, as a teacher he helped shape numerous later designers and is therefore considered one of the ancestors of modern Scandinavian design. He founded the Department of Furniture and Interior Design at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1924, one of the most renowned design schools in the world. One of the absolute Kaare Klint classics is the Safari Chair, which is produced by the Danish company Carl Hansen & Søn.
