MK99200 Folding Chair

Mogens Koch

Mogens Koch may not have designed a lot of objects, but the ones he did are enough to confirm his talent. From Koch originate design classics such as his Bookcase System, which is distinguished by its diversity of possible combinations, or the Folding Chair for the Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn. These, and similar Koch products, are characterised by the Scandinavian tradition of craftsmanship and the desire to respect existing, traditional designs and to develop them for the new realities. Under the influence of Kaare Klint, with whom Koch co-operated from 1925 to 1930, Koch's designs were often ahead of their time. The Folding Chair, for example, didn't enter production until some 20 years after its creation - that's how avant-garde it was. In addition to his work as a designer, Koch was a professor at Copenhagen Art School, a guest professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and at the Industrial Art Institute in Tokyo.
