Upon illumination the relatively conventionally shaped shade of the LC shutter lamp loses all familiar references and shines in a unique light. On account of slightly set back plastic shields the light escapes through narrow slits and illuminates the entire shade in a flattering light. In addition, Louise Campbell's hanging lamps radiates its light stream directly downwards which combined with the opal diffuser results in a soft, harmonious luminescence. With the Louis Poulsen LC Shutters, Louise Campbell has created a lamp which combines a balance of light distribution and glare control to allow a warming light which is both useful and decorative. Formally reminiscent of shop front shutters the light from the LC Shutters shines just behind the slits and evokes a sense of something hidden. In the LC Shutters multicoloured the shutters are coloured which gives the lamps a playful accent.
The designer of the Louis Poulsen lamp LC shutter is Louise Campbell. Born in 1970 in Copenhagen as the daughter of an English mother and Danish father Louise Campbell was raised in both Denmark and Great Britain. And her training as a designer was influenced by these two countries. She graduated in 1992, the London College of Furniture before moving to Copenhagen where in 1995 she completed her studies in Industrial Design at the School of Art. In 1996 Louis Campbell opened her own studio from where she has completed numerous lamps and furniture design projects. All her designs share a playful and experimental component, as perfectly personified by the embossed ornaments of LC Shutters pendant lamp. The shutters associations found in the Louis Poulsen lamp, also highlight Campbell's ability to pick everyday objects and reinterpret them in her work.
The Danish designer lamp manufacturer Louis Poulsen has produced the pendant lamp LC Shutters by Louise Campbell since 2012. The shade is made from one piece of aluminium into which the characteristic perforated ornament structure is punched. The shade of the LC Shutters lamp is subsequently powder coated. An integrated opal diffuser in the form of a plastic ball is responsible glare-free light; and it is this pleasantly subdued light which from a technical perspective is the main feature of the LC shutter. Louis Poulsen is an ideal partner for the production of high quality and technically sophisticated lighting design. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company, together with Poul Henningsen, established a reputation for quality and innovation. Since then, Louis Poulsen has become a recognised expert in Scandinavian designer lamps.
