The Vitra Star Clock is one of a number of everyday objects designed by George Nelson in the 1950s; in a period when America was undergoing a cultural revolution, and one which requested not only functional furniture, but which also laid an emphasis on contemporary and decorative elements. This spirit was reflected by George Nelson in his wall clocks collection with their unusual shapes and colours. With the Star Clock, the name says it all: the radiating structure of shiny chrome and brass rods perfectly embodying a star. The stocky pointer meanwhile provides for a lovely contrast and make the clock a delightful everyday object with an endearing appearance.
