How do I recognise an original Wagenfeld lamp?
Each lamp is numbered consecutively and carries the Bauhaus and Tecnolumen logo.
The Bauhaus lamps from German manufacturer Tecnolumen are the only authorised versions of the 1920s lamp designs by Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Originally designed in the workshops at Bauhaus Weimar, at the time under the leadership of Wagenfeld's mentor László Moholy Nagy. Wagenfeld was of the opinion that the products of the Bauhaus should be industrial products and should look like such - and with his lamp design nearly achieved such. The industrial production however proving a little difficult on account of the number of individual steps required to create each lamp. Despite that, with its clear, straightforward design and the characteristic glass shade, it combines a timeless aesthetic and very technical materials. In addition to the WA 23 SW and WA 24 lamps with metal bases, the Bauhaus lamp is also available with a glass base as the WG 24 and WG 25 GL. Although the Tecnolumen lamps are characterized by high quality and durability, glass is glass - as such should it be required the replacement shade for the WA/WG allows any damaged Bauhaus lamp to shine good as new!
