How do I recognise an original Wagenfeld WG 23 SW lamp?

You can be sure that you are in possession of a Tecnolumen original by the numbering and embossed logos of the manufacturer and the Bauhaus on the underside of the base.

What is the difference between the Wagenfeld Lamps?

Design Story

The Bauhaus lamp, as it is popularly known, is the best known design by the German designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld and emerged during his time as a silversmith apprentice in the metal workshop at Bauhaus Weimar. Since 1980 the design has been distributed as a re-edition by the German company Tecnolumen. Tecnolumen is thus the only producer who holds the rights to the copyrighted design, rights they received personally from Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Due to its high degree of familiarity and timeless aesthetics, the Wagenfeld lamp is often copied and plagiarised: for this reason, the manufacturer Tecnolumen, in addition to stamping each and every lamp with a unique individual identification number also embosses its own logo and the Bauhaus logo under the base of each lamp. Originally the WA 23 SW was intended to present the industrial character Wagenfeld regarded as appropriate and necessary for all Bauhaus products: fell short however in his endeavours to design a mass-producible product. Construction only being possible via an elaborate and individual process. In 1979 however the manufacturer Tecnolumen began to produce the lamps on the basis of Wagenfeld's original designs: and that in a much more sustainable and economic fashion. The WA 23 SW is distinguished by its typical dome-shaped lamp shade, a shade which guarantees a diffuse and warm atmosphere, and stands out from its siblings on account of the elegant black stand.
