The Kaiser Idell Collection by Fritz Hansen includes numerous lights by the silversmith and Bauhaus master Christian Dell, lamps which he designed from 1926 onwards for the then Gebr. Kaiser & Co. Leuchten KG. The construction of the lights is based on a special construction process, which includes a worldwide patented pivot bearing connection and the characteristic socket dome. In addition to the classic Bauhaus lamp Kaiser Idell 6631 Luxus, the collection includes the famous Kaiser Idell Scissor Lamp and other masterpieces of lighting design, which are characterised by their unmistakable shape and their material mix of sturdy steel, high-quality brass details and hand-painted lampshades. Today, the lights of the Christian Dell collection are sold by the Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen and have become absolute Bauhaus design classics. The trained silversmith Christian Dell attended the drawing academy Hanau parallel to his apprenticeship, subsequently studying at the Saxon School of Applied Arts Weimar with Henry van de Velde. Dell later worked as a master in the metal workshop of the Bauhaus Weimar; even at that time, Dell's style of design was already considered extremely innovative and, in the context of the new production techniques, was trend-setting for modern design.
