...Part Gangsta Lean, part Collecteur, part Liesmichl, part inspired genius - we really couldn't not like it...
At first glance one could assume the Moormann Liesmichl to be a minimalist 1980s sculpture. On closer inspection, however, the construction reveals itself out to be an impressively unique reading aid. Designed in 2009 by Nils Holger Moormann Liesmichl is more than just an occasional table; consisting of an aluminium frame into which two shelves are slotted. The shelves and frame support each other and in addition offer not only storage space for closed books, but also storage area for an open book - problems with bookmarks and dog-ears thus become a thing of the past. In addition, there is a small area reserved for beverages or similar comfort. With Liesmichl Nils Holger Moormann has created a simple, yet multifunctional piece of furniture design and one which radiates the typical Nils Holger Moormann humour.
The production of Moormann furniture occurs as far as possible regionally.
The designer of Liesmichl, Nils Holger Moormann, began the 1980s as a bored law student, until he accidentally discovered furniture design. The rich diversity and potential of the then young German design movement fascinated him so that he decided to begin producing and distributing those designs of the age which particularly interested him; a decision which eventually, and inevitably, led to Nils Holger Moormann developing of his own designs. Generally Moormann's designs represent a minimalist aesthetic combined with an innovative functionality - and invariably a very subtle humour, something characteristic of not only the works of Nils Holger Moormann but of the man Nils Holger Moormann. This combination of characteristics make the Moormann portfolio, including objects such as the chair Bookinist or the Liesmichl both distinctive yet welcoming.
The contemporary furniture manufacturer Nils Holger Moormann has been recognized for his creative work with a considerable number of awards.
Liesmichl: the practical reading aid for minimalists.
The Moormann Liesmichl consists of an aluminium frame, available anodized or powder coated and in a range of colours. The two shelves of the Liesmichl are made of FU, a high-quality, film-coated plywood. The Liesmichl is produced - as with all Moormann Furniture - by small and medium sized suppliers in the immediate vicinity of the company's head office in Aschau, Bavaria. In this way Moormann draws on the expertise of individual specialists and also encourages existing economic structures in the region. However not only in political terms does Moormann have a notable moral claim, but also the company's understanding of environmental responsibility underscores the company philosophy: Moormann only use wood sourced from FSC certified, European woods and all designs are realised without fixed connections be that by screws or adhesive. This hallmark of Moormann furniture allows for space-saving transport and their easy recycling, should that be necessary.
Nils Holger Moormann, the mastermind behind the Liesmichl design. And the company Moormann.
Nils Holger Moormann founded the eponymous Moormann in the early 1980s after having decided to follow interest in reduced, clever furniture design, and did so intuitively and without any relevant training. This personal interest evolved over the years into the unmistakable profile Moormann currently posses, a portfolio which includes works by designers such as Cecilie Manz or Konstantin Grcic and has seen Moormann rise to become an internationally renowned furniture manufacturer. Since the 1990s the company have expanded their headquarters in Aschau im Chiemgau , where currently some 20 employees work in a converted stables. Across the road from the Moormann HQ the company established a hotel project "Berge", built on the foundations of a historic inn as with Moormann's furniture production Moormann's hotel is designed to be ecologically responsible, which in this case means using renewable energy and organic products from the region.

A garden is for relaxing in on a summers evening. For growing vegetables. For having a cheeky cigarette when you're supposed to be finishing the accounts. A garden is also a metaphor for growing up, maturing. Getting older. In the final (smow)liest event for...

It's not easy being German. It really isn't. Fortunately, it can be highly entertaining; as Philipp Kohlhöfer more than eloquently demonstrated to a full house at the opening event of (smow)liest 2010 in the (smow)room in Leipzig. From David Hasselhoff...
...In addition to serving as an inspiration for the new VitraHaus, the Moormann Haus also served as inspiration for one of Nils Holger Moormanns most successful designs; the Liesmichl... One of the most innovative and functional of all Moormann products, Liesmichl beautifully combines the two traditional strands of the so called "Aschau School"; veneer plywood and the colours red/white/black with modern hot rolled steel into a delightful reading/bedside table...
