The Outline series is based on the Scandinavian sofas of the 1960s, bringing to such a contemporary touch. The designers Anderssen & Voll created their light, elegant Outline series in 2016, and the collection now includes numerous sofas and armchairs. Simplistic yet functional, the Muuto Outline furniture lives up to its name, and all objects paint a very clear, classic image of their furniture genre. The clean, simple exterior of the Outline series meets a particularly deep, comfortable and soft seat and thus meets all the requirements of a modern sofa - whether used in the home or in commercial/public spaces.
The designer duo Anderssen & Voll created their Outline collection for the Scandinavian trend label Muuto in 2016. Torbjorn Anderssen and Espen Voll began working together in 2000 in Studio Norway Says - and with notable success. When they founded their own design studio in 2009, Anderssen & Voll were already among the most successful contemporary designers in Norway. For Muuto, Anderssen & Voll designed especially comfortable upholstered furniture such as the Oslo series, the Connect Sofas or the popular Outline series. In 2018, the Muuto Outline furniture was given a new dress in the form of the Twill Weave fabric by American designer Jonathan Olivares. Between 2015 and 2018, the designer worked with the textile manufacturer Kvadrat and designed atwill fabric, which was originally created for a daybed: following a request to design a contemporary piece of furniture for the famous Thesis House, built in 1942 by architect Philip Johnson, the daybed was designed in homage to the Barcelona Daybed of Mies van der Rohe and completed by the Kvadrat Twill Weave, a fabric that would eventually be used for the Outline Sofa and the Outline Chair by Muuto.
For the smow edition of the Muuto Outline sofa, four shades of the Kvadrat Twill Weave fabric are used in which designer Jonathan Olivares was inspired by naturally occurring rocks. The exclusive Outline smow Edition combines a taupe powder coated base with four Earth tones, tones which allow the Muuto smow Edition to conjure up Scandinavian simplicity, while simultaneously inviting warmth in the living room.
With the four Twill Weave shades Pozzuoli Earth, Indian Lac, Chromite, and Orpiment, four contemporary colours have been created which reference some of the oldest rock. For example, the reddish colour Pozzuoli Earth is based on the pigmentation of volcanic clay, reddened by iron oxide and found in the area of Pozzuoli, a town near Naples. Already in ancient Rome, the reddish clay, which is also known as Pompei red, used and celebrates today in the form of the Pozzuoli Earth Twill fabric by Jonathan Olivares made a comeback.
The fabric Twill Weave consists of 90 % natural new wool, which makes the fabric comfortable and matches the earthy tones that Jonathan Olivares has developed. The nylon content of the fabric in turn makes it very flexible, allowing it to equally enclose rigid parts, pliable parts and soft parts of the sofa. The smow Edition of the Outline sofa becomes a homely work of art, in which Jonathan Olivares has enriched the already varied and adaptable upholstered furniture series of Anderssen & Voll.
