With the design and the construction of the Vitra Standard chair the French designer Jean Prouvé concentrated on the statics: Because on the hind legs bear the greatest burden they were designed with triangular sheet steel, while for the lower legs more refined thin tubular steel legs suffice to overcome the load. Today Vitra produce the design classic with seat and backrest made of oak or walnut and a base made of sheet steel and round tubular steel.
