Kurzsuechtig 2010 – Animation

Yesterday the (smow)blog team left the office early to collectively visit the opening evening of the 2010 Kurzsuechtig short film festival in the Plagwitz Schaubühne.

From a mixed programme that wonderfully highlighted the rich spectrum of animation techniques, the major winner was without doubt “Laufende Geschäfte” which collected both the audience prize and second place from the jury. The film from Burg Gebichenstein Halle graduate Falk Schuster is a bitter, bitter, bitter dark comedy about two neighbours who live in parallel worlds: until the worlds collide.

The jury prize itself was awarded to “Fallen Gelassen” from Bauhaus Uni Weimar graduates Daniel Büttner and Max Baberg; an intense, and at times brutal, critique on modern society with its winners and losers. And – and for us one of the highlights of the evening – a credit sequence that pays homage to the Leipzig street art scene.

In addition we were particularly taken by the competent artistic realisation of Peanuts from Tim Romanowsky, as well as @-mund by Peter Böving.

But then any film that mocks Edmund Stoiber is fine in our book :)

Kurzsuechtig 2010 continues on Thursday with documentary and Friday with fiction.
