StickBulb by RUX Design

As you know we don’t generally react to, or even read, unsolicited PR E-mails.

And so no one is more surprised than us to find us posting about StickBulb by RUX Design.

A product we have only seen on a website and in a pdf. email attachment.

While the “Big Bang” series dosen’t really get our boat rockin’ – for us there is somehow something too cluttered and needlessly obtuse in the construction and form – the “Torch” series is a joy to behold.

We obviously can’t comment on the quality of the emitted light or if the effect is as clear as that implied in the press photos, but as an object the idea behind StickBulb is almost as wonderful as the execution.

“Yes mum, it’s a stick with an LED light bulb inside…” “Yes mum, it’s what young people in New York are doing today….” “No mum, things weren’t better when people put 100W bulbs on the end of sticks….”

Equally as pleasing is the option to position the lamp, albeit only marginally, through a gentle movement of the powder-coated steel stand. Which is just a lovely piece of intuitive design.

And as if all that wasn’t enough one of the wood varieties they offer is Coney Island boardwalk ipe *

A reduced, intelligently designed LED table lamp built by hand in New York from salvaged Coney Island boardwalk.

That is why it is here.

* We had to look up “ipe” up in our wood lexicon. It’s a genus in the family Bignoniaceae that seems to grow in the Caribbean, Mexico etc. And is sometimes known as the Trumpet Tree. We don’t know why it was choosen for the Coney Island boardwalk.
