smow in-house: Happy Birthday smow Stuttgart

It only seems like five minutes since two tall, neatly coiffured, strangers strode, self-confidently, across the floor of the old smow HQ in the, then, uncontrolled wilds of Leipzig’s Plagwitz Village.

“Who are they?”, went the distrustful whisper round the office, “Tax inspectors?” “Customs?” “Health and Safety?”

All eyes followed the strangers as they disappeared into the frosted glass anonymity of the meeting room. The tension in the office rose palpably. The only visitors known before that day having been the heating engineers during their brave, if ultimately fruitless, campaign to encourage the incongruous heating system to bring warmth to the winter workspace rather than the shrill chill it had autonomously decided was required.

Then, finally, after an apparent eternity, the smow boss appeared to announce the establishment of smow Stuttgart.

On November 26th 2012 smow Stuttgart opened its doors, the first store of an expansion series which has seen the original smow stores in Leipzig, Chemnitz and the international online shop, be joined by smow Cologne, smow Frankfurt and most recently smow Düsseldorf.

The original Stuttgart Two have now grown to a team of eleven and having recently taken over the first floor of the company’s premises at Sophienstrasse 17, the shop space has doubled from 250 to some 500 sqm: domestic furnishing solutions from the likes of Vitra, Thonet and Moormann on the ground floor, office furniture from manufacturers as varied as USM Haller, Müller Möbelfabrikation and Acousticpearls on the upper floor.

To celebrate their 3rd birthday, and formally open their new space, smow Stuttgart are staging a Hausfest on Thursday December 3rd, and from Friday December 4th the new expanded smow Stuttgart showroom is open for all looking for contemporary home furnishings, functional and ergonomic office furniture or indeed a tall, neatly coiffured, stranger.
