How do I recognise an original Diamond Chair?
The Knoll logo is engraved on the frame.
Is the Diamond Chair suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, in the variants with Rilsan protective coating and vinyl seat cushion, the Bertoia Diamond Armchair can also be used outdoors.
The sculptor and designer Harry Bertoia developed during the 1950s various furniture designs for the American manufacturer Knoll International. The most successful of these designs is without question the Diamond Chair - a work so successful that on account of the resultant royalties Bertoia could henceforth focus exclusively on his sculptural works. Woven, more or less, from a filigree metal fabric the minimalist Knoll Diamond Chair is reminiscent of some of Harry Bertoia's sculptural work - not just in terms of material and form but for all in the way it is part of what Bertoia explains, as his "studies in space, form and metal". As an object in its own right the transparent Diamond Chair has an almost sculptural presence and thus sets a clear accent in any room or space. Today Knoll offers the Bertoia Diamond Chair with a frame made of steel wire and with welded metal shell in different versions and with cushions in three different colours.
