FAQ
How do I recognise an original Bertoia bar stool?
The Knoll logo is engraved on the frame.
Primarily a sculptor Harry Bertoia created a series of seating furniture from filigree steel wire for the American manufacturer Knoll International in the 1950s. In addition to the Bertoia bar stool from 1952, these steel wire designs also include the Bertoia chair and the formally related Knoll Diamond armchair - all made of hand-drawn and hand-welded steel wire.
Harry Bertoia had previously worked with metal in his sculptural works. From an artistic perspective, he thus described his furniture designs, similar to his sculptures, as "studies in space, form and metal". The luxurious Knoll Bertoia Bar Stool presents itself as a refined, high-legged object featuring a slightly curved, rounded seat shell. Whether with seat cushions, fully upholstered or without cushions, the Harry Bertoia stool is suitable as a light but elegant seat for the counter in both public and private areas.
