The design of the PH 2/1 Portable battery-powered lamp is unmistakably by Poul Henningsen, and is still produced by the lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen today. As with its siblings Poul Henningsen's PH 2/1 Portabl is characterized by a mix of aesthetic design and intelligent technology, including the characteristic three-shade diffuser crafted from mouth-blown opal glass and which emits the light downwards symmetrically, diffusely and elegantly at the perfect angle. Whether made of high-gloss chrome-plated or metallized metal - the PH 2/1 Portable cuts a fine figure on all tables.

What does the '2/1' stand for in the PH 2/1 Portable table lamp?
Since their creation in the late 1920s a dual number system has been used for the names of Poul Henningsen lamps with their three-part shade system.
The numbers provide information concerning the size and relationship of the three lampshades to one another.
In the case of the PH 2/1 Portable table lamp, the 2 stands for the diameter of the upper, largest shade, which measures 2 decimeters, i.e. 20 cm.
The 1 means that the two lower shades are proportioned 3:2:1 to form an upper shade with a diameter of 10 cm.
This means that the PH 2/1 Portable table lamp combines the upper shade of the PH 2/2 with the two lower shades of the PH 1/1 wall lamp, a work which is no longer produced.
