The Safari Chair is one of the world's first examples of "build-it-yourself furniture" and is the best-known and best-selling piece of furniture by Kaare Klint: the founder of the Danish furniture design tradition and a man who was often inspired by earlier eras and other cultures. Thus arose the Safari Chair in 1933 after Klint had seen in a travel guidebook for Africa a picture of the chair of a British officer. One of the first models of the chair was acquired by Arne Jacobsen, who immediately recognized the potential of this simple and functional design.

| Care | Oiled wood: The ensure the maintenance of your furniture in the best possible quality oiling every six months is recommended. For daily maintenance, the use of a soft, moist wrung cloth with clean water is recommended. Please avoid using detergents or chemicals. Leather 'Thor': The leather 'Thor' is a semi-aniline leather with a natural grain and coated surface. This leather can be cleaned with a mild soap and lukewarm. For stubborn stains, use foam soap flakes and wipe the entire surface with a clean, soft cloth. Allow to dry. Canvas: The canvas covers should be never be cleaned in a washing machine or with water, as this makes the fabric soft and thus leads to a loss of stability. | Sustainability | For their furniture Carl Hansen use wood principally sourced from sustainably managed Danish forests. The oils and soaps for the treatment of the wood as well as, for example, the paper cord used for the CH24 are also sourced following strict ecological criteria. The materials used are of biological origin, and as such also biodegradable while in their processing Carl Hansen strive to keep energy consumption as low as possible. In addition the durability and long life cycle of the furniture aids and abets the environmental responsibility of Carl Hansen products. |
