The Vitra Flock of Butterflies clock is part of the series of call clocks designed by George Nelson in 1955 as his response to developments in America interior design thinking. In the postwar years many Americans strove for more contemporary and aesthetically considered living spaces. In this context George Nelson designed a range of everyday objects freed from their functional dogma and which were as stylish and entertaining as they were practical. The Vitra Flock of Butterflies clock is a particularly eloquent example of this with its multi-layered dial reminding in its dreamy way of the gentle wings of a flock of butterflies.
