The Cassina Red and Blue armchair by Gerrit T. Rietveld stands representative of the De Stijl group with its combination of vertical and horizontal surfaces. The design classic was designed in 1918, but the colour scheme strongly associated with Piet Mondrian did not appear until 1923.
