How do I recognise an original Barcelona chair relax?
The Knoll logo and the signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe are engraved on the frame.
The elegant Barcelona Chair Relax was designed by Mies van der Rohe as seat for the use of the Spanish royal couple on the occasion of their visit to the German Pavilion at the 1929 World Expo in Barcelona: thus it is no coincidence that it more closely resembles a throne than a traditional chair. The curved, x-shaped legs of the from Knoll International produced Barcelona Chair let the monumental and luxurious seat almost float; in addition Mies van der Rohe's chair is wider than normal seats and tilts gently backwards, which provides for an extremely comfortable sitting position and positively invites one to relax. To this end an important contribution is played by the multi-layer padding and the high-quality full leather covers, features which make the Barcelona Chair Relax the choice for those domestic spaces where one seeks comfort and quiet away from the troubles of the daily grind. Passing to and neatly complementing the Knoll chair is the Knoll Barcelona Stool Relax.
