Mathias Schifferdecker - Designer and engineer
Mathias Schifferdecker, born in 1968, is a German engineer and designer specialised in lighting and furniture design. He came into contact with high-quality interiors at a young age through his parents' furniture business and experimented with materials, light and shapes in his workshop. His style is characterised by clear, minimalist lines, precise craftsmanship and influences from Bauhaus aesthetics.
Schifferdecker became known above all for his Cubelight series: this is a luminaire made of hand-cut glass cubes on a polished stainless steel base, which creates fascinating light reflections through indirect LED lighting - even when switched off. With the further development Cubelight Move (2020), he launched a radio-controlled version on the market, whose motion sensors originate from aviation technology and enable infinitely variable adjustment of colour and brightness.
Since 2013, Schifferdecker has been working successfully with Tecnolumen which distributes his lights internationally. His work has earned him the Red Dot Design Award 2016 and the inclusion of the Cubelight CL1 in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 2018.
