Paul Schärer joined the family metal fabrication company in 1961. In 1963, Paul Schärer and the architecture professor Fritz Haller developed the world-famous USM furniture construction system and laid the foundations for the company's rapid growth. In 2011 the pioneer died at the age of 78, however his modular furniture system which now belongs to the standard furnishings of many offices is still being produced by USM U. Schärer Söhne AG in the tranquil Swiss village of Münsingen.
