The life of designer Marcel Breuer was and is very closely linked to the Bauhaus, where he served and studied at both Weimar and Dessau. On account of his Jewish origins Marcel Breuer left Germany following the Nazis rise to power, initially to London and later to the United States, where he opened an architectural office together with Walter Gropius and also contributed to the founding of the Faculty of Architecture at Harvard University. As an interior designer Breuer realized numerous designs in Europe and the USA, before he died in New York City 1981. Perhaps his most popular contribution to design history is his tubular steel furniture - a collection which includes chairs, beds and tables, including the Thonet B 10. As a further development of his B 9 side table the B 10 is a longer, elongated version and thus is ideally suited to serve as, for example, a coffee or telephone table. The Thonet B 10/1 with an additional shelf increases the functionality, be that in the living room, dining room, entrance hall or office and with its restrained aesthetics the Thonet table is a welcome addition to any space.
