Pascal Mourgue
Pascal Mourgue (1943-2014) was a French designer known for his versatile and artistic approach to furniture design, architecture and sculpture. After studying at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Mourgue began designing furniture in the 1960s. From the 1980s he became one of the most renowned French furniture designers, working in various disciplines, from furniture design and architecture to painting and sculpture. Mourgue's design philosophy emphasised the combination of aesthetics and functionality, always prioritising artistic considerations over commercial goals and describing many of his furniture designs as poetic works. From 1994 Mourgue worked closely with Ligne Roset and created numerous award-winning designs, such as the Calin and Smala chairs. The Alizé daybed by Fermob also embodies Mourgue's distinctive, functional style and attention to detail. In addition to his furniture, Mourgue also designed sailboats as well as ceramic and glass objects, and has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix National de la Création Industrielle.
