Marianne Tuxen is a Danish designer specialising in lighting design. Born in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, in 1958 Tuxen discovered her passion for design at an early age, and after studying in the USA and at the Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts founded her own studio, Tuxen Design, in 1988.
Tuxen's work is characterised by simplicity, logic and a deep understanding of space. She believes that light transforms everything and strives to create universally beautiful experiences through conscious lighting design. Her approach is based on analyzing the specific lighting requirements of a space, experimenting with shapes, proportions, materials and light-shadow contrasts to develop functional and harmonious luminaires.
In 2022 Marianne Tuxen designed the Tulip pendant lamp for the restoration of Carlsberg founder J.C. Jacobsen's historic villa in Copenhagen. Inspired by the petals of a tulip, the lamp is made of mouth-blown opal glass and features a brushed brass suspension. Produced by Carl Hansen & Søn, it is now available for private and public spaces.
