Anker Bak
Anker Bak (* 1983) is a Danish designer and cabinetmaker known for his functional and socially oriented designs. After completing his apprenticeship as a craftsman Bak gained international experience in Japan, China, Finland and subsequently studied at the School of Design at VIA University College in Herning, Denmark.
Bak's design approach is characterised by a deep understanding of materials, everyday practicality, and the needs of modern life. His work combines traditional Nordic craftsmanship with simple aesthetics and a high degree of user-friendliness. Role models such as Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen have had a lasting influence on Anker Bak. Anker Bak has a special connection to Hans J. Wegner, as both began their careers as cabinetmakers.
An example of this unique combination of carpentry and furniture design in Anker Bak's work is the AB019 Wall Desk, which Bak designed for Carl Hansen & Søn. Inspired by the cramped living conditions in Japanese cities, this foldable wall desk offers a space-saving, flexible work surface for the modern home. Typical of Bak's work is the sophisticated combination of function and materiality: finely tuned details, perfect proportions and a unique haptic quality give the wall desk an almost emotional quality.
Anker Bak's work has been exhibited internationally and received numerous awards, including the Finn Juhl Prize and the Wegner Prize.
