The Vitra .04 is part of a broad range of Vitra office furniture and was designed by Maarten Van Severen, a Belgian designer who cooperated with the Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra from 1996 onwards. As with other Vitra office swivel chairs the .04 effortlessly combines functionality with ergonomic features; something which on account of its clear lines and its geometric designs it achieves in a visually exciting and unconventional manner. The high level of seating comfort afforded by the Vitra .04 is largely thanks to integrated leaf springs which allow for the reduced yet highly flexible backrest, while the objects unique appearance arises from the integral foam from which it is made - a material more commonly found in the automotive industry. The optionally available triangular armrests complete this perfectly singular office swivel chair. In terms of ergonomics the integral polyurethane foam shell of the Vitra office swivel chair supports the sitter with a combination of give and resistance. Since 1957 Vitra has produced furniture designs by well-known international designers such as, amongst others, Charles and Ray Eames, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Antonio Citterio or George Nelson and have developed a portfolio of furniture which is as innovative and genre defining as it is timeless and elegant.
