Herzog & de Meuron – Architecture Meets Design

Founded in Basel in 1978 by Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron Herzog & de Meuron is one of the world's most influential architectural firms. Led by the two founders and senior partners Christine Binswanger, Ascan Mergenthaler, Stefan Marbach, Esther Zumsteg, and Jason Frantzen the practice employs international team of around 500, including ten partners and 41 associates who works on projects in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. In addition to its headquarters in Basel, the firm maintains offices in London, New York, Hong Kong, Berlin and Copenhagen.

The firm's work is characterised by a distinctive combination of precise material selection, clear formal language and an innovative use of space and light. This design principle characterises a wide range of projects, including private homes, urban planning, and public facilities such as museums, stadiums and hospitals.

With iconic buildings such as the Tate Modern in London, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and the Olympic Stadium in Beijing, the Herzog & de Meuron office has made architectural history. The striking VitraHaus on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein is also the work of Herzog & de Meuron. Numerous awards, including the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize, the European Culture Prize, and the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award, underscore the architectural firm's international standing.

Herzog & de Meuron consistently apply their architectural signature to furniture design. Their designs are characterised by clean lines, functional sophistication and an often sculptural effect. A perfect example of this is the Corker Stool for ClassiCon: Made from solid natural cork it combines the material's special feel and warmth with versatile functionality, bringing the architects' design principles directly into the living space.
