With the EA 119, a member of the aluminium chair family, Charles and Ray Eames moved on from the success of the plywood group and plastic group into new, unfamiliar territory. Again. Instead of a seat shell the Eames' used in their design a length of textile or leather which they fixed between two aluminium side brackets. Thus the covering becomes the seat shell - and this fundamental principle is repeated throughout the entire aluminium chair collection. Whereas the Vitra EA 119 with its five sat base on castors is a classic office chair, the other models in the series are also suitable, for example, as lounge furniture, executive chairs or conference chairs.
