Is it normal for my marble table top to have minor irregularities?

Yes, as marble is a natural material, occasionally minor cracks or holes may be found on the polished surface of the tabletop. This phenomenon, known as "taroli", cannot be completely eliminated and is not a defect, but belongs to the individual character of each unique marble slab. The whiter the corresponding marble tone, the more likely it is that the natural taroli phenomenon will occur.

What distinguishes Carrara marble?

Carrara marble is white marble from the Alps in north-west Italy. The white marble with grey veins is one of the most prestigious marbles in the world. Silica or fine quartz grains may be distributed on the natural stone, which can lead to the formation of transparent quartz crystals, also called "Carrara diamonds". These can result in sparkling crystal veins or tiny holes on the white rocks, making each Carrara marble slab unique.
