Karl Friedrich Schinkel
The architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel's contribution to the cityscape of Berlin is commonly known. That as head of buildings and urban planning for the Prussian state he oversaw all state construction projects, on the one hand, and that as a pioneer of classicism and historicism in Prussia established a building style that remains today defining for the period, on the other hand. The fact that Schinkel was also active as a painter, graphic artist, stage designer, and furniture designer alongside being an architect is probably less well-known. His neoclassical garden chair from 1820 is now produced as a miniature garden chair as part of the Vitra Miniature Collection.
