The Sgabillo Stool was designed by Max Bill and is produced today by the Italian furniture manufacturer Zanotta. Available in varnished birch plywood or black lacquered MDF with scratch-resistant paint, the Zanotta stool is also popularly known as the Ulmer Hocker and comprises three boards with a connecting rod and thus impresses through its simple, functional design, and has justifiably been considered a genuine design classic ever since its launch in the 1950s. Originally designed by Max Bill in collaboration with Hans Gugelot as a stool for students at the newly founded Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm the Sgabillo Stool can also be used as a side table or stacked as a shelf, thus allowing the Zanotta stool to be used in a wide variety of locations, spaces and situations.
