The Eiermann Tables

The History...

The history of the Eiermann tables starts with the Eiermann table frame 1, developed in 1953 by the architect Egon Eiermann and with the characteristic oblique crossbar. The table frame 1 is still the only Eiermann table frame for which the architect was personally responsible. In the original version of the Eiermann frame, the crossed struts were firmly welded to the side frame. In the mid-1960s, a member of the Karlsruhe University of Technology created a transportable variation of the original with vertical struts that were no longer welded to the frame. This modified frame variant is known today as Eiermann frame 2. After the original design had been more or less forgotten for decades, the furniture manufacturer Richard Lampert acquired the exclusive licenses from the Eiermann family in 1995 and helped the original table frame to an unprecedented revival. Since then, the table family has been supplemented by the Eiermann children's desk, the square Eiermann 1 conference table and, most recently, by the Eiermann 3 trestle - a design which is based on the table bases 1 and 2. Yet even more adaptable.

Original and Variations - The Eiermann Frames

The Eiermann frames 1, 2 and 3 Eiermann Trestle together with the range of table tops, are the basis for the wide variety of desk and dining tables supplied by Richard Lampert. While the Eiermann table frame 1 - the actual original - is still the most aesthetically pleasing, the Eiermann table frame 2 is much more practical. The Eiermann 1 frame is available in a demountable version and is available on request with offset crossbars. Nonetheless, the vertical struts of the Eiermann table frame 2 offer even more comfort: regardless of whether placed centrally or offset, the table frame 2 offers maximum leg room from one side, or can be used from both sides. The Eiermann children's desk in turn grows with the children thanks to the extension bars and, in contrast to the other Eiermann tables, has a fixed screw-down table top. Thanks to the square shape, not only can more people find space at the Eiermann 1 conference table, but also all participants sit squarely opposite each other. New in the Eiermann family is the Eiermann 3 Trestle. Developed in 2015 by Alexander Seifried and based on the Eiermann table frames 1 and 2, the Eiermann 3 Trestle is not only absolutely flexible and lightweight, but it provides new possibilities also in terms of tabletops: in addition to quadratic table tops in various sizes, the Eiermann 3 Table trestle can also be combined with round table tops.

Complimenting Table Tops from Richard Lampert

Egon Eiermann only designed the table frame. What was ultimately used as a tabletop was left to the user himself. The table tops should simply be placed loosely on the Eiermann table frames: and there are no limits to the creativity of the choice of edition - Eiermann's students even used disused door panels. In order to avoid such today, Richard Lampert offers a large selection of matching table tops in various sizes: in addition to different coloured melamine and linoleum coatings, solid tabletops in maple and oak are also available.

Individually combinable Eiermann tables

From the different formats of the table frames and table tops there are numerous - more or less useful - combination possibilities. It is important to make sure that the table top has sufficient overhang over the support points of the table frame. To facilitate the selection of a suitable variant for your purposes we have prepared the following overview. The combination options that we particularly recommend are highlighted in green. In addition to the listed rectangular table tops round table tops are also available, principally in conjunction with the Eiermann 3 Trestle.
